WEEKEND ESCAPADES AUTUMN 2013

Weekend escapades Autumn 2013

Ray and I are spending weekends on the road this Fall.

SAN FRANCISCO AND NAPA, CA..... Early September

September 6 through 10 was a trip to SanFrancisco to visit family AND watch The America's Cup Sailing race on Sunday the 8th from the water. My brother Craig has a sailboat and Loves to be out there. We had 7 family members out that day. Tom, his son Dan, Ray, myself, our daughter Julie, Craig,  and Bridget .  It was the day that New Zealand won the first race and US Team Oracle won the second race. That broke our losing streak , and we went on to take the title... again! Very exciting. Connor joined us all for dinner at the Waterfront restaurant. We also did a shopping trip to the Ferry Building where I discovered the Mariposa gluten free bakery and Pressed Juicery, among other great epicurean delights. We stayed at the FOUR SEASONS HOTEL on Market Street.

That Saturday, we drove up to St HElena to visit Julie. Ray saw her cottage for the first time and we had a private tasting with Chris Tilley, the owner of V Madrone winery, where Julie lives. The wines were delicious and we joined his club! Julie made us a beautiful lunch of vegan salads and we ate in her new kitchen. Dan, her cousin works at Preston winery in Sonoma so we drove over for a late afternoon visit and tour. Lovely place. The wine country is so beautiful.... great light, weather, and vineyards as far as the eye can see in all directions till you get to the hillsides that define the valleys.
Dinner for the 3 of us that evening was at the restaurant at the Culinary Institute Of America at Greystone in St Helena. Julie lives really near her new campus. She starts the program in January in Baking and Pastry. We had a Lovely day together. Then a 2 hour drive back to the city. That was long.

After Ray departed for home on Monday morning, I sprinted to the 4 Seasons spa for a good massage
and then drove to Sausalito to check into the Inn Above Tide, right over the water by the ferry dock.
Craig and Tom met me for lunch. On both Sunday and Monday the weather was AMAZING... in the 80s and Sunny. Just great! I had dinner that evening at the Spinnaker Restaurant with my girlfriend from 25 years ago, Valerie Lels.
Tuesday was Marin Day.. I spent most of it with my friend Josie from San Anselmo, and also lunch with her and Frank. Then dinner in Mill Valley with Josie and Elon. Shopping in Mill Valley is also a requirement.

Julie came down and joined me for late afternoon and dinner at a vegan restaurant in the Strawberry Shopping center in Mill valley.  I loved my time in Marin. We lived there for 11 years back in the 80's and early 90s.

Then Thursday morning was my nightmare trip to the airport. The GPS on my car did not work and it sent me in every wrong direction possible. it was horrible but I finally made it!

September 27 to 29... MONTREAL... The Ritz Hotel for Angele's Birthday

We drove up on Friday afternoon. Dinner Friday was at "Maison Bolud" at the Ritz. Excellent French food from a signature chef.  Saturday afternoon was my shopping escapade where I lost my cellphone.
Ray rescued me with technology. The "find my iPhone" app worked.

Dinner was at "La Bonne Address" restaurant just near Angeles residence. We had about 25 family members out to celebrate Angele's 92nd birthday. It was fun but way too noisy. We vowed it would always be private dining rooms from now on.

Sunday we went to visit Ray's Cousin Denise and her guy Normand for brunch, and later  Angele  at her apartment.  Had a simple lunch with her and Claude and Ginette. Then back home with the top down!

October 11 to 14th ..... ORLANDO FLORIDA AND DELAWARE

We spent the weekend wit our son Dave, and his wife, Kait.  They live in St. Cloud, FL which is a bit SE of Orlando. Ray needed to see their new home ( beautiful) ...... We dined on Friday evening at The California Grill in the Contemporary resort at Disney with Dave, Kait and Kaits girlfriend, Kelly...
GORGEOUS Florida evening. We stayed at the Boardwalk hotel at Epcott center. Kaits parents , Gail and Nick were there too.  On Saturday, Dave was working, and we went to check out the International Food and Wine Fest at Epcott with Kait and Kelly.  Too crowded and the food was only average, so we left. Saturday evening was the BIG event... Dave and his team were cooking Daves Pork riette
recipe ( on a bed of pureed sweet potato and butternut squash with a huckleberry bordelais sauce and micro greens!!) at the DISNEY PARTY FOR THE SENSES..... It is a huge foodie event and there were at least 1,000 people attending. We tasted and toasted our son and had a blast with Kait, Kelly, Nick and Gail! Very proud of DAve..... On Sunday afternoon Kait and Dave hosted a lunch at their new home. Their first party! We had about 14 family and friends and a wonderful lunch. I remember Kelly's homemade pretzels! Ray and I gave Dave and Kait a break on Sunday night and went to the Flying Fish Cafe on the Boardwalk for dinner. Monday Dave had the late shift and he met us for lunch at his restaurant, The Wave..... I had a great seared Tuna on a bed of edamame and corn! VERY tasty lunch and it was good to have DAve to ourselves ( so selfish) .......

We headed North that afternoon, and I stopped off in Delaware for a few days to visit my parents at Cokesbury, and my sister Chris and her Tom in North Star... Hockessin, Delaware.

Ray continued on to Sunapee and a few days at the office. So NOW we have all the family visited for a little while!!!! It was Great!!
