CYN Footloose in NYC for 3 Nights!

August 23 through 26th, 2016

Ray had to travel to a business meeting, so I took the opportunity to slip off to the big city to visit some friends and hear some music! Midsummer NEW YORK!!

Arrived on Tuesday the 23rd around noon and checked in to the Intercontinental Hotel at Times Square. I'm used to staying there when I go on Theater Trips, as it is right in the Theater district.

Lunch was at NOBU, the Japanese/Peruvian place on East 57th. I love it. Sat at the sushi bar.

I basically rested in the afternoon and took a long walk around Manhattan on a very steamy Summer Day.

Dinner was in the West Village at a little organic verge place called BLOSSOM. 4 doors down was the first ever GOATS MILK ICE CREAM shop I've ever found. I'm allergic to the protein in Cows milk but can have goat. The place is called "Victory Garden". Delicious!

After Dinner was a show at Birdland, one of the better known NYC JAZZ venues. They were playing the music of Monk. It was only OK , mainly because they were doing Monks music without a piano, which I found pretty lame. I went back to my room and watched a good Movie, Manhattan Night.
Its a new crime drama starring Adrien Brody. I liked it a lot.

Wednesday, the 24th, was my day for BROOKLYN. I met a friend at a tiny and very authentic Japanese restaurant called OKONOMI on Ainslie Street.  Tiny place. Very authentic Japanese
vibe and food. We then walked over to the sister shop , a Japanese Fish Market called Osokanabk.
290 Graham Avenue. You can buy your sashimi fish there.

I also have good friends who are apartment sitting in Williamsburg. I joined them for a stroll around the neighborhood. To Rough Trade.. They sell only vinyl( old records) and have a cool venue in the back. Totally old school, and very fun. Then to a wonderful park with a soccer field and great views of the Manhattan skyline. I think its called Transmitter Park. By now it was late afternoon and serenely balmy. We watched the choppers hovering in the sky waiting to pick up fancy executives and celebrities and wisk them out of the city. We visited a wine bar and sampled wines from a local producer. interesting. Dinner was at CAFE COLETTE, and we sat outside facing a big film truck. Apparently they make a lot of movies in Brooklyn. It was a glorious evening. Soon they will be returning to Florida and it will be a longer trip to visit them.

Thursday was my day for a voice lesson with my very musical friends out in Amityville, Long Island.
Long Island RR Train got me there, and we sang and played for 2 hours together. A total JOY!!!
Next train took me to Atlantic station in Brooklyn. There I met up with my niece, Monica, and met her new kitten. Our dinner was at MARTHA'S. We did all vege, and some nice wines. Very fun.
Next a cab took me back to Manhattan and to the BLUE NOTE Jazz Club for the 10:30 show. It was Monty Alexander, John Clayton, and Jeff Hamilton.... All GREAT players. They were playing all original tunes, and I totally loved it. A Very full house.

Friday I took a taxi back to the West Village.... I needed some more Goats Milk Ice Cream. Another hot day... it made it to 92.  Lunch was a glorious organic beet and chicken salad at ELLARY'S GREENS on Carmine Street. Then Goats milk gelato.... 3 flavors, at Victory Garden.

Now time to head home and have dinner with Ray and some good lake friends.
